Electroplating is a process that uses an electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a thin coherent metal coating on an electrode. Electroplating is primarily used to change the surface properties of an object (such as abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity, aesthetic qualities).

The large difference between normal sculptures and electroplating sculptures is the metallic surface. For the normal sculptures, we usually us the oil paint for the surface, which is the non-mirror effect; For the electroplating sculptures, after shaping and polishing, we need to use the electroplating to make a metallic surface for them, so that their surface look like a mirror.

What kind of difficulties we met during producing the electroplating sculptures?

Firstly, the high cost for electroplating technology, but it worth to make a sculpture in high grade;

Secondly, the high requirement for the polishing, a small sand on the surface may cost the failure of a electroplating sculpture, which means high wastage for these kind of sculptures;

Thirdly, it need longer production time and stricter color control. If we need to paint 4 colors on it, we need to use the oven to coat it for 4 times. And the risk of coating is very high during every times, if the color is not match, we need to wash off all the color and restart it;

A perfect product is born after making all efforts. Electroplating Popeye sculptures attract many people’s eyes and win recognition from them.
