The statue design is based on a photo of a crocodile and uses computer technology to plan the shape of the crocodile. Students from the High School of Technical Education (TAFE) at Halls Creek participated in the construction of the sculpture.

There are crocodiles in the river surrounding Wyndham, and although the sculpture exaggerates the size of the crocodile, it is a great deterrent to anyone who wants to swim in the river.

The historic port town of Wyndham was built in 1885, when it was the Gold Creek Gold Rush. Wyndham is about an hour's drive from Kununurra and three hours from Perth to Kununurra.
